Gate Money: The Story of Non-League Football’s Funding Fiasco, will go on general release on
Wednesday November 30th.
After successful screenings across the country this week, including a sell-out event at the Storyhouse Cinema, hosted by Chester FC, the film will be free to air on YouTube from 9pm this Wednesday. The film will also be available for download, advert-free, on Amazon at a date to be confirmed.
Gate Money is the story of the £10 million National Lottery grant that was supposed to keep 66 National League football clubs alive during the pandemic.
How did what should have a feelgood story turn so toxic, so quickly, that some cashed starved clubs were pushed to the brink? Why did the league end up burying the report into its own conduct? And why does football still not have an independent regulator? In the first 24 hours after its release, the Gate Money trailer attracted over 50,000 views.

Gate Money was shown for the first time this weekend, with screenings at Maidstone United and Tonbridge on Friday night and a special showing at Chester's Storyhouse Cinema on Sunday, attended by Chester's manager Calum McIntyre. The subsequent Q and A lasted for an hour, with McIntyre opening up about his own experiences during lockdown. The film will go on general release very soon. Details will be announced on this website and via our social media channels.

“These little old pals acts ... maybe when there wasn’t social media and stuff like that you could get away with them a bit more... It was horrific.”
Marc White, owner/manager Dorking Wanderers FC.
“There was a lack of governance here. There were conflicts of interest.”
David Bernstein, former chairman of Manchester City and the FA.
